Privacy Policy

Koh Mak News

Effective date: 5 October 2026

1. Who we are

Koh Mak News is an independent local information service for Koh Mak, Thailand, operated on a private basis.

In this Privacy Policy, “Koh Mak News”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the Koh Mak News service and the person or persons responsible for operating it.

This Privacy Policy applies to Koh Mak News services and features, including Koh Mak Game, notification services, accounts, subscriptions, sign-in functions and other interactive services provided through Koh Mak News.

2. Information we collect

When you use Koh Mak News, we may collect information that you provide directly, such as your name, contact information, business name, business details, opening hours and other information you submit.

Some information displayed on Koh Mak News may also come from business owners or operators, public sources, third-party services or community contributions.

When you use an account, subscription, sign-in or interactive service, we may also collect or store information necessary to identify you and provide that service, as described below.

3. Accounts, subscriptions, sign-in and interactive services

Some Koh Mak News services allow users to sign in, register, subscribe to notifications, participate in Koh Mak Game or other interactive features, or manage their preferences. Depending on the service, users may be able to identify themselves using third-party services such as LINE, Google or Facebook.

When you use one of these services, Koh Mak News may receive and store information necessary to identify you and provide the requested service. Depending on the sign-in provider and permissions you grant, this may include a provider-specific user identifier, display name, profile picture, email address or other basic profile information made available with your permission.

We may also store information about how you use the relevant Koh Mak News service, such as notification subscriptions, preferred language, game participation, scores, submissions, preferences or settings.

This information is used to authenticate or recognise you, provide the features you request, maintain your preferences and, where you have subscribed to notifications, send the notifications you have selected.

We do not use third-party sign-in information to obtain your password for LINE, Google or Facebook.

Users may also sign in to certain Koh Mak News services using an email address and a one-time login link. In this case, we use the email address to authenticate the user, create or connect the relevant account, and maintain the associated session.

Koh Mak Game. When you participate in Koh Mak Game, we may store your full name, display name, email address, game participation, scores, photos or other submissions, and information used to verify completion of game tasks.

Some game tasks require the player to be physically present at a particular location. For these tasks, Koh Mak Game may process and store precise location information in order to verify that the player is at or near the required spot.

Location information may be obtained from GPS information embedded in a submitted photo, when available, or from the device’s location service when the user explicitly chooses to share the current location. The browser or device may ask the user for permission before location information is shared.

Location information is used for game verification and related administration. Koh Mak News does not continuously track players’ locations.

Submitted photos may be reviewed by the operator to determine whether a game task has been completed. A player’s display name, score and game progress may be shown publicly in the game leaderboard. The player’s email address and full name are not intended to be shown publicly as part of the leaderboard.

4. LINE Login and notifications

Koh Mak News uses LINE Login and related LINE services to allow users to identify themselves and manage subscriptions to Koh Mak News notifications.

When you sign in with LINE, Koh Mak News may receive and store your LINE user identifier, display name and profile picture made available through the permissions used by the service. We also store your selected notification categories, preferred notification language, subscription status and information necessary to maintain your Koh Mak News session and preferences.

We use this information to recognise you, display and maintain your notification preferences, and send the LINE notifications you have chosen. Notification categories may include news and transport or service alerts and may change as Koh Mak News develops.

You may change your notification preferences or unsubscribe from all Koh Mak News notification categories. Unsubscribing from Koh Mak News notifications does not necessarily remove or block the Koh Mak News LINE Official Account in your LINE account. Actions you take directly in LINE, such as blocking an Official Account, are controlled through LINE.

You may contact Koh Mak News to request deletion of the subscriber information stored by Koh Mak News, subject to information that must be retained for legal or legitimate administrative purposes.

5. Google Sign-In and Facebook Login

Koh Mak News may allow users to sign in or register for services, including Koh Mak Game, using Google Sign-In or Facebook Login.

When you use one of these sign-in methods, the relevant provider may give Koh Mak News a provider-specific user identifier and basic account information that you have authorised the provider to share. Depending on the provider, configuration and permissions granted, this may include your name, profile picture and email address.

Koh Mak News uses this information to identify or authenticate you, create or connect your Koh Mak News service record, provide the requested feature, and maintain associated preferences or participation information.

Google Sign-In used for user login is separate from the Google Business Profile connection described below. Signing in to a Koh Mak News service with Google does not by itself give Koh Mak News permission to manage your Google Business Profile.

You may stop using Google or Facebook sign-in for Koh Mak News services. You may also use the controls provided by Google or Meta/Facebook to review or revoke an app’s access. You may contact Koh Mak News to request deletion of personal data held by Koh Mak News, subject to information that must be retained for legal or legitimate administrative purposes.

6. Google Business Profile connection

Business owners or authorised representatives may choose to connect their Google account to Koh Mak News so that information about their Google Business Profile can be viewed or updated through Koh Mak News.

When you connect your Google account for this purpose, Google may allow Koh Mak News to access information relating to Business Profiles that your account is authorised to manage. Depending on the functions used, this may include business names, Google location identifiers, addresses, telephone numbers, websites, opening hours, special hours and business open or closed status.

Koh Mak News does not ask for or receive your Google password.

7. How we use Google Business Profile user data

Google user data obtained for the Google Business Profile connection is used only to provide functions that you knowingly request through Koh Mak News. This may include identifying Business Profiles that your Google account is authorised to manage, displaying relevant profile information, and sending updates to a selected Google Business Profile when you instruct Koh Mak News to do so.

For example, a participating business may use Koh Mak News to update opening hours or indicate that it is closed on a particular day, and Koh Mak News may send the corresponding information to Google Business Profile.

Koh Mak News does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, credit decisions or unrelated purposes.

8. Storage and security

Koh Mak News may store information necessary to operate its services, including account or provider identifiers, notification preferences, service participation information, and information necessary to maintain a connection between a participating business and its Google Business Profile, including Google Business Profile location identifiers and OAuth authorisation credentials or tokens.

Authorisation tokens and similar credentials are treated as confidential credentials and protected using reasonable technical and organisational security measures. Access is limited to what is necessary to operate the service.

Koh Mak News uses cookies or similar session identifiers where necessary to keep users signed in, maintain authentication sessions, protect the service and provide requested features. These session technologies are used for the operation and security of the service rather than for advertising.

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, legitimate operational requirements, or where retention is required by law.

8A. Hosting and technical logs

Our website is hosted by ALL-INKL.COM in Germany. Hosting infrastructure processes technical information needed to deliver pages and maintain the service, such as IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, browser information and response status.

Our customer-controlled access logs are configured to replace IP addresses with 0.0.0.0 and to be deleted after seven days. Webalizer statistics generation is disabled. These settings do not determine the retention of separate operational records maintained by our infrastructure providers.

8B. Cloudflare

We use Cloudflare for website delivery and security. Cloudflare may process IP addresses, request information and other technical data to deliver content, detect malicious traffic and protect the service. Depending on the security features used, it may also set necessary security cookies.

Cloudflare may process information outside Thailand, including in the United States. Its processing and retention depend on the services used and applicable arrangements. Further information is available in Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.

8C. Google Analytics and cookie choices

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand website usage and improve our content. Analytics may process information about pages visited, interactions, browser and device characteristics, approximate location and cookie identifiers.

Our consent controls allow you to accept or reject optional cookies and change your preferences through “Cookie settings”. Necessary technologies used for website operation, authentication and security remain available.

Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled. Optional Analytics account data-sharing settings are also disabled. User-level and event-level data retention is set to two months, with the option to reset retention on new user activity switched off. Aggregated reports may remain available for longer.

Further information is available in Google’s Privacy Policy.

8D. Embedded services and boat timetable widget

Our website may include embedded services such as Google Maps. Loading these services can disclose technical information to their providers. Where applicable, our consent controls offer choices about loading optional embedded content.

Other websites may embed the Koh Mak News boat timetable widget. When it loads, your browser connects to Koh Mak News and its infrastructure providers to retrieve timetable information and service alerts. These requests may include your IP address, browser information, selected route and date, and referring-page information where supplied by your browser.

The embedding website may separately use analytics or other technologies under its own privacy policy. Removing the widget prevents future widget requests from that page.

9. Sharing of information

Koh Mak News does not sell personal data or Google user data.

We do not transfer Google user data or information obtained through LINE, Google Sign-In or Facebook Login to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Information may be processed by service providers necessary to operate our website, hosting, database, authentication, messaging or security infrastructure, subject to appropriate confidentiality and security arrangements.

Information may also be disclosed where required by applicable law or by a valid request from a competent authority.

When you choose to use a third-party sign-in or messaging service, information is also processed by that provider in accordance with its own terms and privacy policy.

10. Google API Services User Data Policy

Koh Mak News’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

11. Your control over Google Business Profile access

Connecting a Google account for Google Business Profile access is optional. You may stop using the Google Business Profile connection at any time.

You may revoke Koh Mak News’s access through your Google Account security settings. After access is revoked, Koh Mak News will no longer be able to use that authorisation to access or update your Google Business Profile.

You may also contact Koh Mak News to request deletion of stored connection information and associated personal data, subject to information that must be retained for legal or legitimate administrative purposes.

12. Your choices and deletion requests

You may change or stop subscriptions and other optional Koh Mak News services using the controls provided by the relevant service where available.

You may revoke permissions granted to LINE, Google or Facebook through the controls offered by the relevant provider. Revoking a third-party permission does not automatically delete information already stored by Koh Mak News where that information is still required for the purposes described in this policy.

You may request deletion of personal information held by Koh Mak News, including information associated with sign-in, notification subscriptions or interactive services. Requests can be submitted through the contact details published on kohmaknews.com.

Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to request access to or correction of your personal information, restriction of its use, objection to certain processing, or a copy of information relating to you.

Where a third-party platform requires specific user-data deletion instructions, Koh Mak News may also provide those instructions in its Terms of Service or another clearly identified page linked from the relevant platform.

We may retain limited information where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, dispute resolution or legitimate administrative purposes.

13. Public business information and accuracy

Business information intended for publication on Koh Mak News, such as a business name, category, opening status, opening hours, contact information or location, may be publicly visible.

Information on Koh Mak News may be provided or updated by business owners, operators, users, public sources, Google or other third-party services. Although we make reasonable efforts to provide useful and current information, Koh Mak News does not independently verify every item and does not guarantee that published business information is accurate, complete or current. Opening hours, temporary closures, prices, schedules, availability and other operational information may change at short notice.

Users should confirm important information directly with the relevant business or service provider before relying on it.

14. Third-party services

Koh Mak News uses third-party services, including LINE, Google and Meta/Facebook, for certain functions. The processing of information by those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Koh Mak News is not responsible for the operation of third-party services.

15. Children

Koh Mak News services are intended for general users. Where consent is required by applicable law and a user is a minor, the necessary consent must be provided by or together with a parent or legal guardian as required by law. Parents or guardians may contact Koh Mak News regarding personal information relating to a minor. Koh Mak News does not knowingly seek to collect more personal information from children than is necessary to provide the requested service.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Koh Mak News, applicable law or our use of external services changes. The current version will be published on kohmaknews.com and the effective date will be updated.
